Capital City Country Club is located only two short miles from the State Capitol Building, Florida State University and Florida A&M University. The hilly and picturesque layout was designed in 1920 and underwent a green and bunker renovation in March of 2009. The classic layout features large oaks and pines and the elevation changes are more reminiscent of golf courses commonly found in mountain regions of the country. The greens were grassed with Tift Dwarf Bermuda and new slopes were added on several greens particularly on the front nine holes. The Tillinghast Association is a collection of golf courses designed by renowned golf architect A.W. Tillinghast. Tillinghast helped to designing nine holes of Capital City Country Club in 1936 during the expansion from a nine hole golf course to its present day eighteen hole layout.

Capital City Country Club – Florida

There are several signature holes on the Capital City Country Club layout. The first hole is one of the more scenic and difficult challenges on the entire course. Players are faced with a downhill tee shot to a fairway protected by a small creek on the right and a lateral hazard down the left. The fairway bends from left to right and a well placed tee shot leaves players with an uphill approach into a newly designed three tier green. The lower bowl area of the green serves as a collection area and the back right hole location is the most difficult shot on the par four. Anyone getting away with a par four on the 403 yard first hole is smiling as they walk toward the second tee.
