The Ranch Golf and County Club is a Championship 18-hole golf course located just minutes West of Edmonton. The Ranch was Ranked the #2 Best Public Golf Course in Edmonton and the #14 Best Public Golf Course In Alberta by Score Golf Magazine.

Hole 1 at The Ranch Golf and Country Club

The opening hole is definitely an intimidating opening tee shot for any level of golfer. Make sure to favour the left side of the fairway, as the bunker and bush on the right side is reachable for the longer hitters. You will face an uphill 2nd shot to a narrow green sloped back to front, that can be home to many tricky pin positions.

The 5th hole is what many call the “signature hole” at The Ranch. Known as the Pit-Hole, it demands a drive in the fairway which is difficult due to the severe left to right slope. The 2nd shot can be anything from a hybrid to a wedge depending on the wind. It is ALL carry as there is a pit full of fescue grass in front of the green roughly 75ft below the putting surface. If you find the green you may be faced with a roller-coaster type putt due to the multi-tiered green.

The toughest Par 3 at the Ranch Golf

Probably the toughest Par 3 on the course, due to the length and it playing into the prevailing wind. Guarded by bunkers on either side you must hit an accurate long iron to a narrow green with subtle breaks that can be hard to see. A green in regulation, with two putts is something you will take every time on this hole.

Next tee…

Hole 12th : Ranked as the #1 handicap hole due to its length and OB along the whole right hand side, this hole proves to be a difficult par. The right side of the fairway gives you the best angle to this elevated narrow green, however fairway bunkers and the ominous OB fence play tricks with players mentally. If you miss your 2nd shot to the right of the green you will find yourself with a tough up and down from 12-15 feet below the putting surface. Missing left will leave you in a deep greenside bunker.

The hole 14th is definitely the most picturesque Par 3 on the course. Be sure to club down at least one club to take into account the downhill elevation from tee to green. Shots lost to the right have the potential to hit the hill and bounce onto the green, however if the ball stays up there you have zero chance of getting up and down. Proper club selection and accuracy are paramount to walking away from this mid-length par 3 with a score of 3 or less.
