The Royal Ostend Golf Club was founded in 1903 and stretches out in the dunes in the middle of the Belgian coastline. Destroyed during the WW1 and World War 2, the club was rebuilt.

Martin Hawtree renovated the layout in 1990 to meet the challenges of modern golf, at the same time respecting the original design, and his minimalist approach ensured this fine old links is as good to play today as it was over a hundred years ago. Further upgrading work was carried out in 2006 when five greens (at holes 7, 8, 10, 16 and 17) were replaced as part of a renovation plan that continues into the new millennium.

Royal Ostend golf course has six par three holes on the course and many consider the 145-yard 8th to be the best of them. This majestic par 3 has a panoramic view over the course and the sea with a large green well-defended. The only advice : enjoy the view before hitting.  The opening hole is a  short par 4, dogleg to the left with a water hazard on the corner and an out-of-bounds on the right. The green is pretty well defended. keep it safe, play an iron to the corner and you’ll only need a wedge to the green.

The clubhouse was renovated during the 90’s in a pure English style. Every year, an important competition programme, with more than 40 different prize donors, takes place from spring till autumn.
