Founded in 1967, Sembawang Country Club offers a 18 hole golf course.

Following its recent make-over, the course at Sembawang stretches to just under 6500 yards, and contains many excellent golf holes. Known locally as the “Commando course”, this nickname owes as much to the layout’s significant elevation changes as to its original designers – 42 Commando Royal Marines (British Army). With New Zealand armed forces extending the course from 9 to 18 holes, don’t however think you need commando-training to play here, just a reliable buggy (which is provided), and as straight and accurate a game as you can bring along. Together with the hilly terrain, you will also need to be prepared for some testingly tight holes, occasionally flanked by thick jungle (from where monkeys may watch your progress), or by water, or by the club’s neighbours, the Singapore Air Force.

After a thoroughly absorbing and testing front-nine, the stronger back-nine heads into even more undulating terrain, and into the layout’s most attractive stretch of holes. The excellent par-4 11th and 12th holes occupy a very picturesque corner of the course, while the delightful island-green par-3 13th might be beautiful to look at, but has the potential to put a nasty blot on your card. Your work is not done as you climb up the short par-5 14th and then tackle the difficult long par-5 15th that starts with a blind tee shot. The closing hole on your adventure strewn round is a long par-3 played to a well-protected green in front of the clubhouse
