Hapuna Golf Course

Hapuna Golf Course

In 1997, the U.S. Golf Association named Hapuna Golf Course “The Course of the Future.” This Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay-designed 18-hole championship course is nestled into the dramatic natural contours of the land from the shoreline to about 700 feet above sea level. This beautiful course features spectacular views of the Kohala Coast and the Pacific, with snow-capped Mauna Kea volcano as a backdrop. Hapuna’s challenging play and environmental sensitivity make it one of Hawaii’s most unique golf courses.

The Hapuna Golf Course is one of the most natural you will find anywhere in Hawaii. Rising to an elevation of 700 feet above sea level the golf holes fit exquisitely into the contours of the land. The views here are spectacular and seemingly endless. Every direction you turn provides a new look from the sparkling blue Pacific to the dramatic Big Island topography. And as always, the awe-inspiring beauty of the slopes of Mauna Kea looms in the distance.

Here at Hapuna Golf, Arnold Palmer has created a number of risk / reward situations particularly on the par 5’s .

On the back, the view from the 11th tee is phenomenal and the hole itself is terrific. Keep in mind that the farther you get from the tee the more the trouble creeps in on both sides. The 11th green is not overly large but is extremely well bunkered.

The 14th hole is a fabulous par 5 that offers the player a number of different options in which to play it. Eventually the large ravine on the right side will have to be crossed but for long hitters this green can be reached in two shots. Keep in mind that the shot into this 14th green plays very much uphill so take plenty of club.
