Glenmarie Golf & Country Club

Glenmarie Golf and Country Club is about a half hour’s drive from the Kuala Lumpur airport and is one of the main golf courses in the Klang Valley.

Glenmarie has owned its renowned name by their lavish 36-Hole Golf course (Garden formerly known as the East Course & Valley the West Course) designed by Max Wexler. Being the Founder’s vision of an Exclusive Country Club, both courses have established their rightful identities by the layout of the course and the display of the scenery. Glenmarie is a Member’s Proprietary Private Membership club with exceptional club facilities, night golfing and events venue.

Established in 1993, Glenmarie Golf & Country Club has made gigantic strides to become one of the top golf clubs in Malaysia. The reasons are obvious as Glenmarie’s crown consists of many jewels with the most caratage and sparkle, ideal for inclusion in golf trip in Malaysia.

Both courses uses Bermuda Tifway 419 on the fairways while the greens are Bermuda Tifdwarf. Both buggy courses are designed by American Max Wexler and sculpted according to their natural topography.

Glenmarie has earned its reputation for its immaculate maintenance as its owner the DRB- HICOM Group , have spared no expense to ensure that the best and most up-to-date machinery are used. The field staff are constantly coming up with ideas to improve and upgrade both courses. Glenmarie’s drainage system is so advanced , play can resume minutes after a heavy downpour.

GARDEN COURSE

The 6,432 metre Garden Course at Glenmarie Golf lives up to its name with a rich variety of flora and fauna and aesthetic lakes which meanders its way through a tropical garden with many types of palm trees and flowering shrubs. If eagles and birdies do not creep up on the scoreboard, the plethora of birds to be found on the Garden are amazing. Watch out for the swans, especially the black and white swimming on the lake. The Garden Course has undergone total renovation of its greens plus several aesthetics changes to bunkers, tee-boxes. fairways and cart paths. The renovation exercise was to enhance the beauty of the Garden Course and to make it more challenging.

The opening two holes on the Garden Course may have you thinking that water will be a constant threat, but don’t worry. Only two further holes, the par-4 5th and short, snaking par-5 12th have water seriously in play. Much of the challenge here comes from judging your approach shots into large, fast and undulating greens, while staying out of quite deep and abundant greenside bunkers.

VALLEY COURSE

On the 6,325 metre Valley Course many species of pine trees form the main theme on this narrow but open and scenic course with breathtaking views. You may think that will make for a watery round, but water only comes dangerously into play on about five or six holes. The par-5 4th presents the biggest water challenge, with a creek to avoid from your tee-shot and an island green to hit before you get the chance to putt-out. The Valley’s the tighter of the two tracks so careful course management is needed in order to score well here. Notable holes on the course include the 223-yard 8th (with a fast and tricky green benched into a small hill on the other side of a water hazard), the 553-yard 14th (where a creek slashes across the fairway en route to an island green) and the 445-yard 17th (rated the toughest on the card, it plays to a green flanked by water on the left).

In 2014 Glenmarie Golf & Country Club hosted the inaugural EurAsia Cup (formerly called the Royal Trophy), a team event between Europe and Asia played in a similar format to the Ryder Cup. Europe and Asia tied the tournament in 2014. After a one-year hiatus, the EurAsia Cup returned to Glenmarie in 2016 and Europe won emphatically, 18½–5½.
