Glen Oaks Club

glen oaks club

Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury, 24 miles east of Manhattan’s Times Square, is a very private club designed by Joseph S. Finger and opened in 1971. Old Westbury is one of those comfortable, leafy communities carved out of the sprawling country estates that used to dot northern Long Island. The golf neighborhood is equally upscale, with the likes of Meadow Brook Club, Garden City Golf Club, Piping Rock Club, The Creek Club and Nassau Country Club all within eight miles of Glen Oaks.

The Glen Oaks Club hosts three 9-hole courses, which offer a variety of 18-hole combinations and a total of 27 regulation holes. They measure 6,995 yards from the longest tees and offer a par value of 72, a slope of 136 and a rating of 74.7. The course is considered to be medium in length. The 1971 Joe Finger design was reworked by Joel Weiman and boasts superb conditioning, courtesy of superintendent Craig Currier, who formerly tended the blades at Bethpage Black.

Successfully playing a round at Glen Oaks is definitely a serious challenge for even the most advanced golfers. The greens are small and fast. Water hazards and narrow, birch tree-lined fairways with left doglegs create an interesting game for all levels. Walking is allowed. In addition to the course, the club offers a 25-tee driving range, a Pro shop, caddies, golf instruction, a restaurant, snack bar and full bar services.
